Another busy day!
We read the book Wemberly Worried, and talked about how to make new friends.
Step one: Introduce yourself, exchange names
Step two: Tell something you like, ask something they like
We will continue to practice introducing ourselves and making connections to start friendships all week.
In literacy we practiced 2 ways to read a book by ourselves
1. Read the pictures
2. Read the words
Tomorrow we will learn a third way!
In math we all brainstormed a special number and wrote and drew why it was special for us.
Then we spied around the room and shared lots of things we see in our room for math (number grid, pattern blocks, clocks, cuisenaire rods etc).
We had our first PE class today and loved it!
FYI there was a major problem with the lunch account numbers that were assigned and the school has re-issued all new numbers. Please disregard the number from the yellow 'My First Grade Number' sheet I gave you at Open House. I will help the kids learn their new numbers here at school.

Today we rocked the first day of first grade! I was so proud of all these students!
We learned a lot of necessary things to make it a smooth year ( how to get to the bathroom, how to order your milk, how to go through the hot lunch line, how to use the equipment at recess, how to find the nurse's office etc.)!
We also read a great book that was about a character starting school and feeling unsure called Chrysanthemum. This led us to a nice conversation starter about how to be a good friend and how to make a friend. We will be focused on building our social skills and sense of community for the rest of this week. My biggest goal is for everyone to like school and want to come!
Look for a special birthday treat coming home in backpacks tonight from Ross! Happy 6th birthday Ross!
Tomorrow is PE day, please have your student wear or pack sneakers.
