Lunch, Recess & Bus Notes

Lunch and Milk
First graders eat lunch at 11:30 each day.  Hot lunch, including a milk, costs $2.00 and children may also buy a milk from the cafeteria for 50 cents to accompany their cold lunch from home.  I would encourage you to take advantage of the school’s prepay lunch account system.  Please visit the  Food Services  webpage for more details on purchasing lunch and milkMoney should be put in a marked envelope or container.  Please include your child’s name and what the money is for on the envelope or container.  A snack milk (white or chocolate) can also be purchased for 50 cents each day and the prepay account can be used for this as well.  As a part of children’s morning jobs, they will sign up for snack milk upon arrival in our classroom.  Students can pack peanut items in their lunchbox.  We have specific peanut/nut free tables for students with allergies.

Snack
We have a morning snack each day at 10 am.  Children may purchase a snack milk on that day for 50 cents using the school’s prepay system or money.   They sign up for snack milk each morning.  Children’s snacks should be nutritious to promote a healthy learning environment.  All snacks must be peanut free.  I encourage you to pack a decent sized snack(s) as children do not get another opportunity to eat until lunch and it is a long and busy morning.

Bus notes
If your child is going home differently than he/she usually does, please use pick up patrol to notify the school of the change of plans.

Recess
We have a morning recess (15 minutes) and a lunch recess (30 minutes) each day so it is important to dress for the weather.  We will go outside as long as it is not raining and above 15 degrees.  Students are welcome to bring soft balls, baseball mitts, jumpropes, chalk or other appropriate recess things to school with them.  Please label anything you are concerned about losing. No hard baseballs please.  Appropriate shoes are needed for safety on the playground equipment.  Students are asked not to wear flip flops to school for safety reasons.
